Individuals with a chronic medical condition (such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes and cancer) or complex care need may qualify for Chronic Disease Management services. Eligibility for Chronic Disease Management services and the Medicate rebate is determined by your GP. Medicare benefits are available for a maximum of five dietetic services per eligible patient in a calendar year.
Medicare does not usually provide rebates for telehealth services provided by an Accredited Practising Dietitian. However, commencing on Monday 30 March 2020, telehealth has been expanded to allied health practitioners during COVID-19. For eligible patients, Dietitians can provide telehealth (video-conference) and phone consultations under Medicare services.
Private Health Insurance
Many private health providers will provide you with a rebate for a dietetic consultation. Patients with private health insurance are encouraged to contact their private health fund to check what cover is offered.
